Teach A Bird Not To Fly

You asked me

how it felt

to be alone.

You told me that

nobody

will ever love me

the way that you did.

You told me that

nobody

will ever understand me.

Not like you.

But when I left you,

I felt like

a caged bird

set free.

My wings were weak

from a lack of flight.

From being held back

for so long.

And I was alone,

oh was I ever alone

But I was so free.
