not a home for miles
just cows
and horses
and a rooster
who likes to beat the
sun in the morning
with its crow
trees guard their posts
cactuses attempt
to intimidate anyone who comes near
porcupines and skunks
and deer
hide within their havens
she feels at home here
generation after generation
of ranchers and cow folk
she tries to suppress the thought
but it persists
let’s face it-
she ain’t no city girl
