Told Twice

A camel cuddles on the floor

In the cool richness of a sleeping room,

Among the patrons of a rainy day nap.

She is over equipped;

Extravagant humps about to burst

From the abundance of refreshing dreams,

Childhood memories, and water

That washes inside like a crisp voice

Lulling a melancholy tune from some B-side.

Comforters amassed about the head of a horse

Crush with kindness in a way

That only a fallen fort, after a bout of laughter,

Can crush, collapsed over slumbers.

He, unashamed to bare his teeth

She giggles so soft that bashful sapphire blue butterflies,

Rare as gentle, understanding eyes could land on her fluttering tongue.

Not dead, not flogged, but somewhat beaten,

The beasts of burden hook and combine their undersides with arches,

Laying callused hoofs with shod.

Long necks intertwine to bring lips to ear

And lips to ear

So the colt, above sleep

Can twice bring the camel bright

Words that let her see

Because she made him live.
