Prolouge
The rush of water overhead, coming down in sheets resembeling nothing less then drops of silver, came from the skies almost instantly. It drowned out the pale sunshine that had held reign throughout the day completely wothout effort and descended onto the city streets below. People ran in all directions, making their way to shelter to prevent being drenched with the bitterly cold water, in most cases unsuccessfully. Despite this however, the rain was a welcome gift, unseen for many weeks and desperately needed all the same. The water impacted with the foot trampelled roads and soon made them nothing more then thick rivers of mud, assuring that no cart would travel through them for at least three days. Young children watched from the windows of houses, yearning to be outdoors while those with no homes to go to forsaw a night of uncomfortable rest, wishing they were in the warmth of the homes themselves.
This great irony however, was lost to Lena on this day and on all days for none of this was seen by her. The rain, the people, the children at the windows and the children with no windows mattered not at all to her and in fact, she knew what neither rain or poverty was in definition or otherwise. Lena was far from all of this and the concept of this held no consequence to her. Her home was far away from all of these things, beyond smaller cities ans towns, plains, meadows and lands covered with rock and nothing more. She lived within the Fairvahn Desert, far upon the farthest reaches of their world in the extent that it had been explored. In this desert stood her home, the only city known to reside within the desert, Salastine. Here, the concept of rain was unheard of for it had never been seen here, so for those who had never travelled to the cooler parts of the world, the subject of rain had as little importance as of why the sky was blue and not green, it simply wasn't so.
The city itself was built of three levels. The lowest of the three was the marketplace, which at this time of the day was crowded with merchants and upper-class people who were shopping. The second level was made up of of the houses belonging to the merchants, and the highest of the three was home to the palaces that belonged to the aristocracy of the city, overlooking both the city and the desert land for miles each way. It was in the highest of these levels and in the highest of the palaces that Lena sat in on this night, looking out her window unaware of anything except that one day she would rule over everything that she saw, and all the people that were so busy and would all serve her. Of this she was fully aware.
