Is that what they call it?
Recovery. It doesn't quite fit, but,
Yes, go away for awhile and
Re-upholster yourself
So that when you come back
We won't have to be reminded of you
Just by looking.
Those were the stains you couldn't clean, so
They must be removed
And, for a while, we'll keep your nakedness
In the basement, and our only reminder of you
Will be the depressions you left in the carpet
And the bill from the tailor for your new poplin.
Let's make it something fashionable and clean,
So that when we put you back in the front room
It will be on display,
And company will stop mid-sentence to say,
"Is that piece new?"
