He leaves his home at dawn
Picking his way among the traffic
By public transportation
With only a lunch pail
Loyalty and a few meager cents
In case of an emergency
And if not used
Will be returned to purchase
Ration not for his lawn
But for his family trying to lick
The politician?s inflation
Like a tiger licking his tail
Hiding all the miserable dents
And all the loopholes he can see
Whilst he?s amused
At their red tape and paper chase.
If there?s no overtime when the last bell goes
He changes and mixes with the rat-race
Homeward bound by the subway
Even after a hard day?s work
He may cook or minds the children
As he awaits for his wife, too afraid to watch TV
He decides and leisurely putters
Around the home and garden
At wife?s arrival they?ll discuss the throes
And worried lines on her faithful face
Retiring early for the day
Discussing the evils, which irk.
After some child guidance they?ll send
The children to homework lovingly
Mother and father sleepily mutters
Lapsing into a sweet dream of Eden.
The consumer?s fear is not
Of criminals, offenders or muggers
No! He has a greater fear
The fear of going to the supermarket
Fear of the news on the radio
Television or newspapers
Blasting sad news of another increase
Of taxes, rent or food items
It appears men are caught
In a battle like warriors
Pitting one against the other to share
Their blunders when they blew it
Their false pride makes them show
A pretence to their supporters
As if trying to help to cease
The uprising of these problems.
His children go to school either separate
Or public like others
They are disciplined in body and mind
Taught at home to be careful
Considerate and punctual
Taught personal hygiene
Respect for other?s property
Always be contented
Charity begins at home not by fate
Treat everyone as brothers
Show concern when one is in a bind
Family ties are strong and helpful
Coupled with this atmosphere of parental
Guidance, the home is warm and serene
Diminishing uncertainty
Causing a firm bond to be cemented.
