A fable about the end of the world

Explosions, explosions everywhere. A big meteorite pierced the earth like an arrow, leaving it empty and desolated. All traces of civilization were erased. Everything became black colored after the fire burned. Dark gray smoke dominated the land, and a horrible burned plastic smell was replacing the air. Nature is no longer nature; it’s now just ashes and destruction, but life is not over. Small heartbeats could be heard, there was a survivor, a little black cat arose from a pile of debris, scared because he had heard the death scream of millions of people. Disorientated because of the explosions, he started to wander the dry and hostile surviving land while the sun softly burned his little body. After walking several kilometers, facing dangerous lands and getting food from the fallen burned houses that were scattered in the dirt, he found a place where he had decided to stay and die. He fell asleep, because he was tired of all the walking. He had lost all his hope to live after watching that the world was not the same, that he was alone and that death was his fate. Suddenly, a bark was heard, it was a dog who had survived too. The cat woke up immediately; he had just heard the sound of his natural enemy, but he thought that it was just a dream, and went to sleep again. Another bark was heard, and this time it helped to erase the doubts the cat had, so he went out of his hideout to see what was going on outside.

“Hey!” the dog said, “what just happened, where’s everyone?”

“I don’t know” the cat said, maintaining a guard position.

“Where are my humans? Where are my friends?”

“I don’t know, I already told you.”

“Well, it seems we are the only ones” the dog said.

 “Aha”

“Why are you acting so hostile to me?”

“Because you are a dog, and I’m a cat, I hate you and you hate me, I don’t trust you.”

“Are you nuts? Look at you, you look terrible, we have to stay together and work, because if you keep by yourself, you are going to die. Forget the hate and focus on surviving, our world is destroyed, but not us, we got a new opportunity to live, lets fight for it.”

The cat was silent, but after meditating, he forgot his death thoughts and found himself with a partner, with a friend, whose company made everything brighter.

“Okay, you are right, let’s work together to get food and to protect each other, can I count with you? Will you never betray me?” Said the cat.

“Of course you can trust me and I will never betray you, we are friends now and I got your back, don’t worry and let’s go on! Let’s search food that I’m starving” Said the dog.

So they parted away, two souls wandering an endless sea of ashes and debris. Two enemies that forgot their differences, two beings once surrounded by others, but now alone. They only had each other, they trusted each other and managed to survive in the hostile land, but his fate was decided, they died, but they didn’t die alone, they died as partners, as two enemies that became friends, as brothers.

The moral of the story is that friendship can born between enemies and that irrational hate must not be an obstacle to try and meet new people.
