This One Time I Held A Baby
today i held a baby
and didn’t know what to say,
so i held her as
she looked at me
and flooded my mind
with more thoughts
than i could take.
at once she made a smile
and those big bright
eyes made me forget
about everything i was
trying to figure out.
a friend made me laugh
a big bellied laugh and
her face froze with fear;
the cutest thing i’ve ever seen.
she didn’t like the sound
but i know she liked me.
and that was enough
to convince me that
some day i’ll be
complete when i have
my own daughter
looking up at me.
