I was only 17 when you came back

I was broken hearted - hurting and alone

You gave me attention, made me smile

I gave you everything!



I was only 18 when I told you I'd marry you

Sacrafice my dreams for you

You told me you loved me

And you'd stay with me forever

We went through some rough times

And I left for school across the country



I wanted to reassure you of my promise

That I would always be yours

That our commitment was real

That our rings had meaning



But you seemed to have another plan

What I thought would be sweet

Turned sour in my throat



I was only 19 when you were 3,000 miles away

You got scared I was leaving you

And you called off the wedding

You didn't even wait to hear me
