My muzzle parts in a howl of rage
Flame licked fur of a woodland sage
This home I have known and trod on paws
Burns down around me and my steaming claws
This forest was green and full of life
Then came thunder and lightening strife
With a finger of light, touch of a god
This forest in firey shoes was shod
And now my wolf-soul is trapped to burn
Among olden trees whose ashes churn
With mine, with wolf bone and feral dream
Our blood and sap will together steam
And rise in an ancient heathen fire
Like a sacrifice left on a burning pyre
We smoke as one, this wood and I
And for once our mingled souls do fly
In choking plumes we blot the night
To breathers we are death in our happy flight
And the cold moon air slows us now
We dissolve and spread like a misty cowl
Fire is sated and a forest gone
A magnificent beast from the world was drawn
A wolf in a wood now a wisp in the air
And a soul set free from hungry despair
