There was a well on the edge of a quiet wood
Not far from a sleeping town it stood
And all through the quiet of a summer night
The water within glowed starry light
Tell me water, said a star kissed beam
Of change and currents and darkest dream
So water spoke in its river voice
Of all that comes with deepest choice
Now star, sing to me of fire
And starlight sang, a light filled choir
He sang of heat and tempering
Of the hot destruction true light brings
Then for awhile both were still
Both thought long of change and will
Memory sprawled in the distant past
The things once built but did not last
Yet here, they all lived once more
In a starlit well that like a door
To the edge of an ever quiet wood
Not far from a sleeping town stood
And all through the quiet of a summer night
Glimmered brightly in starry light.
