She pulled up at their spot.
In deserted field, where snow
at been just a short time ago
Now it’s a flourishing with a sea
of the greenest of grass
She got out of her and stood in
front of her car hood.
Even though it was warm out
She felt a chill coming on.
She was replaying memories that
at one time, would have made her smile.
But here lately she’s been filled with anxiety
and uncertainty
She stares out into the field
Trying her damndest not to cry
Her heart hurts and there is no
way she stop this ache
Only he can stop this hurt.
And just like that.
The thought of him
broke the dam that she
had been trying so hard
to keep in.
Once the tears started she
couldn’t make them stop.
They just poured out of her.
She closed her eyes to try and
stop her crying but it was no use.
This field, she thought is where he took her
to calm her racing thoughts and to focus on the
all its vast beauty that it beheld.
Now all she could see was the memories of him.
She recalled sitting beside him and being the happiest she had ever been.
She felt protected and most importantly
she felt loved
Now.
Now she can’t breathe
Her chest has never felt as
heavy and so broken before.
Nothing like this.
Sure she had been hurt before
But this time… it was so different.
She thought of the times when they
sat in his truck and just held each
other.
She painfully remembered when they
first kissed and made love there
He used to calm her heart with his
hand on her chest.
She could then breathe
Now she’s got her hand there
feeling the weight of tiny shards
of a broken heart.
She just prays that one day
she will hear the rumbling of
his truck pulling up.
Till then she will try and put herself
back together.
