Memorial Day

I remember the holiday
when I lied
on a crowded beach.

With the sand
between my toes,
the sun kissed me.

Ocean blended with sky;
the waves crashed
into the clouds…

A foamy concoction
like the frozen cocktail
in my palm.

A carefree afternoon:
worries breezed
through the trees.

It was the prelude
to the summer
I would never forget.
