I don't want to
write sad poems forever;
I don't want to
cry myself to sleep.
But the sun always sets,
and the sky is usually blue.
And so my soul leans
towards the darkness
like a flower to the light.
My heart has shadows
that tend to envelop it
without my intervention.
It can feel hopeless,
and I often surrender
to that emotion.
But the sun also rises
when it pushes
past the horizon.
And so I can fight through
these feelings that
weigh me down.
