Holding My Breath

Folder:
Dedications

I spoke my truth.

My heart poured out,
ready for you to break it
into a million pieces.

Then all I could do
was hold my breath.

And hope I didn't suffocate.

I prepared myself
for the worst news of my life.

I cried a thousand tears,
expecting it.

And when you finally answered me,
I waited for the ball to drop.

I thought my chest would cave in;
I thought I couldn't survive it.

Your lips uttered the words
that I had hoped to hear.

My heart, still intact,
leapt for joy.

My chest began
rising and falling again.

I was still alive,
and you were the reason why.
