The shrubs standing scattered around me
know the secret of the great savannah.
A gentle breeze, a howling wind
blowing across the plains, sometimes
thunder and rain hitting us with a vengeance
carry the messages to the other worlds.
I feel the esoteric vibrations of the hot crust
that trigger me into wakefulness:
the season begins
with unwavering strength
the sun shines as ever
on the blue heavens
flowers falling
from the shrubs convey the message-
that the season of honey
is passing over, Bees are emigrating to Osupuko.
And Egrets are come, sniffing the rain
Nekishu birds graze with my cattle
soon Lion and Sheetah shall be on the long trail
of Wildbeasts to the greening plains.
Let me not be alone my land
save me from loneliness, fulfill my dreams
as we sound Esekekwa over the world
conveying the message of our calm beauty.
