The darkest night of December
ever my life has known,
sitting here by the embers
stunned, helpless, alone.
The songs of victory
drowned in sorrow.
Never again will they see
the light of tomorrow.
It was strange to feel so happy and
triumphant and yet feel like crying.
Then again, it's not surprising when
so many around me here lay dead or dying.
Blue-black is our
ever darkening horizon.
The painful memory of that past
keeps me constantly on the run.
The darkest night of December
ever my life has known,
sitting here by the embers
stunned, helpless, alone.
