Into the Raging River

Folder:
Inspired by music

The day begins

All is calm

Your boat slides into the river

Almost silently

So as not to disturb the peace

You step into the boat

Lightly

And settle yourself

Ready for a peaceful ride down the river

Once in midstream

There's no need to paddle

Lie back and relax

Let the current carry you

Listen to the gentle flow of the river

As you float downstream

And begin to drift off to sleep

Suddenly, beyond the soft trickle

A rumbling in the distance

As of swift waters

But you cannot see 'round the bend

Can do nothing but follow the current

Until...

'Round the bend

White waters!

Trees to ensnare you

As you dodge

Rock to the left!

Rock to the right!

Rock dead ahead!

A frantic struggle

Darting side to side

A push here

A sidestroke there;

Must avoid the rocks!

Adrenaline builds with fright

No time to think,

Only react

Just action

Swift motion

To keep from harm.

Another bend:

Panic!

Rocks bigger than before,

Current swifter

The struggle to survive continues

Mounts

Adrenaline peak!

Calm

Breathe a sigh of relief

As your heartbeat resumes its usual pace

The river is placid once more

As you ponder the miracle:

You survived!

The gentle current calms you

As you drift back into the oblivion

That is the river.
