As she was awoken in the late night hours by a knock on her door Ann put on the first piece of clothing she could find and headed for the door. She knew she worked long and tedious shifts but it was a strange case when she got a call at these hours of the night. Half asleep she opened the door to find one of her co-workers on the night shift standing there anxiously. “What’s the matter?” She asked with a bit of disappointment. “A patient Ann, its urgent we need you to come now if we want him to live” exclaimed her co-worker. “Alright, alright, calm down” she said in a tired voice as she headed back inside and calmly switched into her uniform. As her co-worker watched through the open door Ann walked sluggishly and in slow motion through the house. “We don’t have much time!” she said as she hurried her. “Fine! Its going to be ok chill” Ann scolded. Finally, they both walked down the stairs and into the car as they drove back to the hospital. A few minutes later they found themselves entering the ER as everyone rushed to Ann, each saying a different thing. “Hold on, hold on everyone, one at a time” she said as they all tried to explain what happened. It was not until Ann set foot into the room where there was a dying patient that she realized the severity of the problem and it all made sense now. It was not a normal injury and for this matter it was not any normal patient. As she walked into the room she almost fainted at the sight of her own father lying there half awake after being crushed in a car accident. As tears rushed down her eyes she immediately began to work. “I need him in the operating room now!” she ordered as the others rushed to her aid. As they rushed him across the hallway Ann felt her heart pounding almost outside her chest and kept thinking how she had wasted valuable time as her father grabbed her hand and softly muttered her same words “Its going to be ok” and his heart monitor started to fade into all the commotion.
