Tears

The first and only home of the first Gods was a small and round planet. Shades of blue and green covered it in a unique and beautiful fashion. So beautiful in fact that it made the Gods cry, and with their tears they found that the green grew brighter and stronger, and so they decided to name this planet Earth. There was not much on this planet, but it was home for the Gods. It was these Gods who in their form of white beds of cotton floating above the planet, one day decided that their home was too far away from them.

“Let us move it closer to us.” Said one of them, and so they created mountains so high that the Gods could rest upon them comfortably. And so it was that mountains were born. In the darkness of the Earth, the Gods decided that it was too cold.

“Let us warm this earth.” Said another, and so they created a star so bright that it would warm the entire planet. Earth was their daughter, and so they deemed it appropriate to call this star their Son. The star slept behind the mountains during the night and created darkness. When he awoke to look at the earth below him he felt it was too lonely, and so he asked the Gods for companionship. The Gods created an abundance of wildlife, animals of all kinds that would rise whenever the bright star would rise in the morning and go to sleep with him when he hid behind the mountains. The animals swam, flew, ran, and ate peacefully throughout the planet. Things functioned smoothly until the animals started to realize that their meals were not satisfying enough. They grew tired of the plants and trees that the Gods created for them and made strong with their tears. They began to wonder what else could they taste to satisfy their hunger. What else could they taste that wasn’t green, and so the Lion realized, they could easily eat each other’s flesh. But the King of the Jungle was wrong, it wasn’t that easy to prey on other Lions, and his hunger grew stronger with each passing day. So when the Lion saw an innocent fluffy creature hopping around the grass he decided to make a run for it. Each and every day, animals around the Earth heard about the rumors about the Lion who tasted meat, and as expected, most of them followed behind.

The Gods noticed what was happening but hoped that the animals wouldn’t forget about the wonderful plants and trees that were made just for them. But they did, and as the days went by, every animal began to prey on the weaker one, until they stopped eating plants at all. Angry at their beloved creations, the Gods decided to teach them a lesson, if the animals believed they could survive without plants, “Let us deprive them of all plants,” said one of the Gods.

Spring was about to begin and the animals were waiting for those magical tears that made their home seem brighter and more colorful. Days, weeks and months went by, and the tears never came. Soon, the plants and trees began to die, the oceans and rivers to dry up, and the great star Son didn’t want to come out of the mountains anymore. Day by day, the animals began to disappear, first the weakest among them, but as time passed the stronger ones vanished on account of those strongest. Until one day, there was no single creature left on the planet and in that exact moment, the Gods finally cried again.
