It is older than me but it is smaller, it does not study but it is sharper. It has been with my family longer than me but very few members of the family know about it. It has been used during, the intense summer heat, the unforgiving cold, the pouring rain and the muddy days. It has cut me out of unwanted situations and has shared many meals with me. It reminds me of my childhood and spending those long summer days with all of my cousins at my family's country house. We would wake up before the sun came out and went to bed long after it went in, gazing at the night and trying to count all of the stars in the sky, sitting next to my grandfather. I received it when I turned 18, I had no knowledge of it prior to that. We where having lunch at my grandparent's when all of a sudden my grandfather called my dad and me to his room. My dad and I looked at each and followed. We went inside his room and there was nobody there. "Over here!" he yelled, from inside his closet. We went inside his closet where he had his cabinet doors open, I don´t recall ever seen them open before. It was just a couple of days after my birthday so I suspected that it had something to do with that. He reached inside and handed over my present. It had an old, rusty feeling to it, but for some reason I felt like it was brand-new." It is now yours to take care of, it represents our family's name, honor and history.” my grandfather said. At first, I thought he was talking about my present, but now, after thinking back on that moment, I realize he was really talking about my family's name. It was my grandfather's knife and with it, came a leather case with "G3" engraved on it. It stood for Gamez 3, as in every third Gamez generation. The tradition behind the knife is that every third generation, a member of the family is given the task of taking care of the knife until the next third generation is old enough to take care of it. His grandfather gave it to him and he was now giving it to me. It had lived many adventures when it was with my grandfather, which he tells me about every now and then when we sit and contemplate about life. I know it is an old knife, and it might now be worth very much, but is my most valuable possession.
