Speed limit

You´re pushing 190 km/h when it hits you: you´re speeding, you are driving past over the speed limit, and well, you should slow down. You are now conscious and very well aware of this; you´re mind has processed first, the action – you, with your big and heavy foot are plummeting every last gram of it onto the pedal; second you analyze the situation – you think to yourself “hey! The speed limit is 120 km/h and boy would you look at that, the needle is almost at 200 km/h”; now third you put two and two together and you start thinking to yourself about consequences to your actions. You have read the statistics, and you have seen the news, maybe even you yourself have been in an accident. You know all it takes is a split second – a glance over to your bright screen, a yawn, or something extern to you, maybe a cow down the road or maybe a pebble laying there just ready to hit your pneumatics in just the right/wrong spot.

Weirdly enough your thoughts now jump to the scenery around you – it is pure perfection; the mountains could just as well have been taken from a painting and to top it all off, yours is the only car cruising up and down these hills. The smoothest ride of your life, you push into the accelerator only to propel the car up the hills and then just sit back and relax – just worry about the stirring wheel – and let the momentum the car has built pull you over the hump. Almost like a roller coaster, you let yourself go. Except, because you are driving you cannot really nor totally relax so you go back to your first thought and decelerate for about 60 km/h.

Ok, so you´re still going fast, just not as fast as before or over the speeding limit. Therefore, you guess you can now relax, and you do. You get carried away with the song that´s playing on the radio, you´re singing along, and you still got your eye out on those beautiful surroundings. Now you come to realize you´re only about 20 minutes away from your destination. And to welcome you to your destination? Bright, magnificent, red and blue lights – yes it´s a cop and you´re getting pulled over because it turns out all the while you have been thinking about speeding or not, its consequences and, of course, don´t forget about that magnificent backdrop, you were actually still speeding.
