With Olympic Pride!

Family Poems

Athletes from around the world gather to compete,
Olympics are fro the best ones, only the elite.
People come together, to view, from Countries far and wide,
Sit in crowds, cheer together, put differences aside.
Sad was the loss of an Olympic Luger, this year,
Nodar Kumaritashvili in our thoughts, for him my eyes did tear.
Competeing with him in mind, he is remembered through each game,
And ALL the athletes, will compete in their Countries name.
These special men and women, trained hard, for their great Olympic ride,
They represent the homes they love, with glowing Olympic pride.

Jennifer Heil was the first Canadian to succeed,
Then others joined on her path and followed in her lead.
Moguls and big air, finish line crossed with style,
Winning the first medal, made Canadians smile.
A beautiful trip down the snow covered hill,
Clean and smooth, not once did she spill.
Freestyle skiing, SILVER she has won,
Olympics have started, fantasies and dreams have begun.

Alexandre Bilodeau showed the ski hill, he was its master,
With such a great performance, he showed the world, no one was faster.
Blurring speeds he did reach, perfect launch of the jumps,
Kart wheeling through the air, took both landings with solid thumps.
With such a wonderfully clean and exciting run,
Standing to celebrate, Canada knew our first GOLD had been won.
Hands raised over the green line, he had right to be proud,
Canadians everywhere, were saying his name aloud.

Mike Robertson tried his best to be leader of the pack,
With all his strength, he made his place on the track.
Between blue lines, around the corners he rode high,
With huge air, off the 'Money Booter' he did fly.
Neck and neck, the best battled down the slope,
Canadians on edge of seats, with anticipation and with hope.
Cheered for him, when SILVER he won in his race,
Earning a medal for his Country, a smile graces his face.

Watching Kristina Groves was a breath holding sight,
With alot of speed and skill, she skated in her red and white.
Blades cutting through ice, pushing to the extreme,
Tucked down, sleek and smooth, fighting for her dream.
Around and round, the track she went,
She pushed on, hard, even when she was spent.
With her best effort and super skating,
Canada knew BRONZE was won, hers, for the taking.

Maelle Ricker owned her sport, with her win, she can claim first women's GOLD,
Left others so far behind, she earned her right to be bold.
With un-imaginable ability, she flew over that white track,
A GOLDEN performance, audiences could see, she held nothing back.
Strapped to board, so completely in control of her ride,
Soaring on snowboard, across the course, she seemed to glide.
She had Canadians, aound the world, standing on their feet,
A spectacle to behold, way ahead she led the pack, all others she did beat.

Only six days of events have passed, in the Olympic sport,
Tuned to T.V. and radio, Canada waits for more medals to report.
Fingers crossed, listening close, everyone hopes for another GOLD,
A SILVER or a BRONZE, would be nice to bring into the fold.
Selected for their special skills, our top athletes represent us now,
For each and everyone of them, to ALL our Olympians, I do bow.
Win or lose, perfection and crashes, these are, our most elite,
Even if they did not win, these athletes performed some amazing feats.
From curling to hockey, snowboarding and skiing, they make me very proud,
For them, with my Olympic pride, I stand and say 'I AM CANADIAN', out loud!

T.V. on, Olympic Events, pay attention while penning this,
Olympic winners on my mind, a SILVER medal, I can't miss.
Marianne St. Gelais skated sharp, best effort and great will,
Five hundred meters, to show the world that she had skill.
Living her dream, blades cut ice, straight and smooth,
Tucked in tight, around she goes, moving fast, she's in the grove.
Our Canadian Olympians are, earning thier keep,
Anthems play again, around the world, people weep.

With these Great Canadians in mind, I feel, I cannot end,
Congratulations to current winners, I, now do send.
Proud are we, who hope, more medals will be won,
Even when they don't succeed, I know they still had fun.
To make it to the Olympics, they must give up a lot,
And no one but them, can understand, how it feels in that spot.
Night and day, training hard, all the time, aiming for 'The Best',
But not until the Olympics, will they really be put to the Test.
Two times 'Oh Canada', has been sung, at the Olympics now,
As I wait patiently, for it, to repeat, to our Olympians, I give another Bow!

Ready. Steady. Olympiams at theline, wait, listen for the gun,
A thousand meters, on her skates, trying hard, to be, number one.
Christine Nesbitt was the quickest, the leader of her race,
While skating with opponent, she set a triumphant pace.
Speeding round the oval ice, top time on the clock,
Canadians from shore to shore, watched with awe and shock.
Kick across the finish line, the greatest women in her sport,
Our National Anthem, will now play again, a GOLD medal, to report.

On the podium, flowers in hand, its great, when each name is spoken,
They recieved medals on ribbons, to us they give, memories as tokens.
Olympians with GOLDEN medals, are really, very few,
Tomorrow, we will start again, to hope, another dream comes true.
Competeing in all elements, rain and icy hills, sights like I've never seen,
Termendous crashes, big tricks, lugeing bears and lynxs, an Olympics it has been.
In the next Olympic days, I will wait, for more medals to be stated,
More wins, would be great but if not, I was entertained while I waited.
I wish for perfect performances, for our women and our men,
To stand on the podium with pride, and hear 'Oh Canada' again.

All our Olympic Athletes, are now viewed with great respect,
More medals, strung round Canadians necks, than anyone seemed to expect.
This Olympic day, I am glad to say, a medal was gained before it even ended.
Though I am real proud of them, this poem, is now, longer than I intended.
For those of you who read this, it may have taken a while,
To those who take the time, I hope it brings you a smile.
No complaints, I continue penning, I am proud that those great kids, are winning,
Eight medals, Canada now claims, distracts me, sends my thoughts spinning.
For Olympians, who have done their part, Good for you, now relax and take a seat,
Join your hopes with ours, that others win, as they continue to compete.

Jon Montgomery is his name, GOLD around his neck will hang,
Made Canadians proud, now once more, our Anthem will be sang.
Face first, on his sled, flying down and icy slide,
He has to be skilled and brave, as thats one extaordinary ride.
Red and white, and maple leaves, waving in the crowd,
Bells ring, people shout, stand on feet to cheer, yell his name real loud.
Watch as he, leaps up onto podium, to take a GOLDEN place,
Arms raised in the air, a smile of pride across his face.

Once every two years, do these Great Olympics, occur,
How many times will their Anthem play, no Country can be sure.
But no matter who the winner is, or where they came from,
Quick to mention, those who helped, respect is given to teacher, coach or mom.
I have watched one young Olympian, step up to the place, for which she fought,
Amazement, as she reached down and pulled up those she found, to join her in that spot.
Seen a hard crash, on the ski hill, back on her feet to finish, how proud she had to be,
The respect they show, to those who crash and rise again, is dazzeling to see.
These great Athletes, struggle and strive for what they believe,
I sit here, wondering, how many medals will our Olympians own when they leave.
