My Father, My Friend
(Written By: Matt Michaud)
As a child I was a pain and sometimes a smartass
He put up with my shit and won’t ever ask
For any repayment at all
He’s there when I trip and I fall
Because I’m his son and the best you can have
I’m the proudest there is to call you my dad
Remember those cold mornings when you’d lace up my skates?
After I’d scream and curse for not letting me sleep
So there’d be times when we’d fight and it’d get rough
But all I remember is our unconditional love
Because I learnt from your lessons, I watch where I step
I’ve avoided the shit and I don’t smell yet
I miss the days at the start of my life
And the tears that you shed when I stepped on the ice
Now that we’re older our outlooks have changed
You’re my father my friend and that’s stayed the same
Hey dad it’s ok if to cry when we make you proud
All a son can ask for is for their dad to show how
Much he cares and wants them to succeed
Either by letting him stay at your office at work
When getting sent home from school for being a jerk
I’ve learnt many things from my dad
Like to always keep trying even when it gets bad
I miss the days at the start of my life
And the tears that you shed when I stepped on the ice
Now that we’re older our outlooks have changed
You’re my father my friend and that’s stayed the same
I miss the days at the start of my life
And the tears that you shed when I stepped on the ice
Now that we’re older our outlooks have changed
You’re my father my friend and that’s stayed the same
