Rise Above I'm the girl you have to lie to your parents to,
Because the world isn't ready for me, yet.
My views of equality and rights,
Would make your Baptist mother swoon.
And as cool as that is,
It isn't what I set out to do.
I wanted to just be me,
No filter or mold, so I did.
And here I am,
lesbian as fuck,
And a feminist.
Blame my dad, my mom, my schooling,
Heck, blame yourself,
But don't think you can change me.
I am the child you have to simply for your parents,
So they don't get the prayer circle started.
Too radical for my day,
But if I wasn't,
Who would get things changed?
