Lament of Dark Times (intro)

Folder:
Ethereal Fragments

Of all those who went,
Where thee to meet
Few met their Fate.
One who survived many,
In time of dire Need,
Listen to his story.
Summoned by Destiny,
Do not rush blindly.
Our Champions, the Call beheeded.
Go to the Light !
Not for Fame, not for Glory,
Thy Quest just begins,
In strange and unknown Lands,
Before thee, the Future is bright !
Their Quests they undertook,
Companions await, Adventure calls...
– Never to be written in any Book –
Go to the Light !
Of the Seer they followed the Trends.
Seek thy Destiny, Heed thy insight !

A Chimaera Nest,
Put many of them at Rest.
In Swamps soaked in Blood,
Many Heroes forever stood.
Like lost Souls wandering,
Some will always be aimlessly journeying.
To such murky Hazards,
Most felled, so sang the Bards.

Strange Races were rediscovered.
Fleeing, dead or disappeared,
Those Civilizations to us hinted
Le Monstre Sacré s'éveille, s'incarne,
The same Danger, they encountered.
The Evil unleashed,
This ancient Power, we carelessly freed,
To our common past, was closely linked.
Never to be forgotten, but we did not recall,
This Bond, this Oath, binding us all.
Sentant son Esprit, la Terre frémit et pleure sesEnfants.]
In Blood and other Fluids, The Pact had been sealed.
Memories awoke of late, our Debt at last was billed.
Souls rings with fear, Time holds her breath.

High was the Price, higher the Need,
All Races willingly paid in Souls and Blood.
The Chosen Ones went in Errand or studied.
The ancient scrolls which still stood,
Crumbling Ruins and old Engravings,
All that remained of the Elderlings,
Our witful Scholars hurriedly Scavenged,
Bits of Knowledge, strange Stories.
Losses were to be avenged.
To achieve Peace at this Age's End,
This Evil to be slain and saned.

At a slow and steady Pace,
Evil spread, of Life its Distate.
Animals and Plants, into wicked Beings bent.
All Beings had to face,
The harsh Truth of their Duality.
For the Weakest of Heart, those weak in Goodness,
Their harmonies so discordant !
Madness, Destruction was the ultimate Fate.
Others, Behaviours uncanny,
Rejected Reality, Ignorance bless!
Hiding in former Truths, or embracing Evil,
Before all Mankinds, Dark Times rose,
Wielding Hope and Light, strayed Peoples
Newborn Heroes to save an unwilling World.
Stood to fight, leaving their Mark into History.
Beyond Legends, this is their Story.

Listen to the Plea of whose who died in this dire Age
Forever, all Peoples must remember and celebrate
Thoses Sacrifices which saved all Life from Void's Rage.
Their Blood is now History's Inks.
Because we survived, and that was not their ultimate Fate.
Here begins the true Lament of Dark Times
As we learned it, as it has been lived, but in Rhymes.
An History that shines on thanks to their blinks.

First, let us fill your Minds annoyed,
With Pictures of the Life and Ignorance
That were soon going to be destroyed
By the incoming Chaos Dance.

Tales of the Binding are long lost,
Distrust between Races arose,
Lone Individuals hunted by Crowds
Soon, any Relation ceased,
Alien Beings unwelcomed in frost,
Communities in themselves pleased.
Xenos turned into Legends, we suppose,
Knowledge of those returned to the Void.

In human Settlements,
Self-contentment,
Little Wars and Skirmishes.
Strength alone was respected
But it had brought Order.
Into a silver Age, World was sent
Of which Farmers were the Plaster.
So One could somehow,
A Life in Peace enjoy
The Land under his Plough.
Until this accursed Day when some
With strange Forces, wanted to toy.

In this Age of Light subdued,
Of local Harmonies, clear ringing
And where Life was valued,
Scholars sought first to improve
The Lot of their Fellows.
They wandered in many Fields
And mingled with ruling...

Power soon became their Goal,
In Stygian Depths, they went on the Prowl
For the legendary Knowledge of Mind Control.
Countless deadly discoveries were made,
But thankfully nothing about this Shade.
