Things I Wish You Understood
By Muriel Palanca
(Shakespeare Sonnet)
If roses shall die, then why come to bloom?
A season of bliss but doomed to the frost,
A flame in the darkness, winter consumed,
The brilliance of fire, the warmth quickly lost.
If cold shall intrude, I beg you to stay,
Your armor for comfort, though hard it may be.
A heart cannot break if not given away,
But left in a cage, it can’t be set free.
How can I save you if I lose the war?
Through all the pain, I’d still give you a chance.
Tell me you love me. I’m worth fighting for.
The next time I leave, I’m not coming back.
I lied when I said I gave up on you.
Just lay down your guard and let me break through.
