Tick Tock
Tick tock! Tick tock!
Muttered the nightly watch
Reminding me of time
Of sleep and tiredness
Of pain and dreams
Shadows and screams
It became annoying
As it marked the seconds,
minutes and hours
that flew, scowered
remained and left
committing the worst felony
purposeful theft
pitch black, onyx, ebony
the sound and picture
stayed and lingered
in my inquisitive mind
intriguing, warped, and blind
must go to sleep
must go to reap
the benefits of health
of love and wealth
before time goes
before age grows
tick tock tick tock
it never ends
it will never stop
it does continue
there is nothing I can do
it charges, rampages
outwits the ages
how I grew, how I grew
I can’t masticate or chew
Too crunchy this beef stew
Hot flashes and fevers
Traitors and deceiviers
I’ve seen it all
I’ve felt it all
I’ve lived it all
I’ve crumbled while standing tall
Tick tock! Tick tock!
Expresses the unwavering clock
How rude, how flippant
Can’t it wait an instant
Can’t it give me a break
He can’t! Too much at stake
Tick tock! Tick tock!
All the secrets time unlocks
Unknown, to itself, alone
Made of a heart of stone
So cruel, so punitive
I am not a fugitive
I suffocate, I supplicate
I cannot duplicate
I drown in my sea of wrinkles
I can no longer see twinkles
My eyes are too cold, too grim
My wrists are too frail, too thin
The mirror cannot stand such a sight
Such a sight for sore eyes
Tick tock! Tick tock!
Reminds the sinister clock
Goodbye time capsule, hawk
No longer can I walk nor talk
