Abstract Salvation

Oh, to gaze upon that old misty bench once more

where our parasols erupted and the rain did pour

where we could lock eyes and just drift off in space

we thought we knew the secret,

But that sadly never was the case

The dew-soaked fields, and the trees so grim

the fort by the lake where through the night we swimmed

the morning breeze that always chased us away

if we'd only brought a blanket,

then surely evermore we'd stay

the lights upon the mountainside that flashed at night

and something in our minds that lingered just from sight

we sang upon the porch until the daylight decayed

but our words still carried little,

in place of what our minds had tried to say

The moon cast our shadows to the valley floor

our eyes they were fixed, while our minds they soared

barely a thread left us tied to the world

we almost tried to cut it,

just to see the universe unfurl

The midnight streets, where we rode our bikes

the tangerine street lights looked so dreamlike

once we reached the river, only stars lit the ground

and though we'd lost the trail,

for that moment we felt so safe and sound

And looking back further, something startled me

a thought that all these stories in my head were just dreams

and without you there to tell it any other way,

and looking back now,

those memories have strangely tinted grey

Yes, to look upon the silhouetted hills with you

For that I'd almost surely start this life anew

hopefully by then I'll know how to freeze time

and maybe, just maybe,

that time around we'll truly make the climb
