You can put me on KP duty all day long,
And RTO at night in the TOC, still Army Strong;
Manifest me to go from one FOB to another FOB
On convoys or working in the chapel, still a stellar job.

…because I volunteered.

You can put me on Hands Across the Desert,
And laundry detail again without a single helper ;
Get me to do guard duty in the midst of night,
I will shine through storms on a retrans sight.

…because I volunteered.

I volunteered…
The moment I signed on the dotted line,
I vowed to serve this great nation of mine;
Graciously before the flag, I stood with a tear,
And I said I volunteer to fight what you fear.

You can put me on a march for miles to ruck,
And PT in degrees below to not see me shrug;
Let me do CQ overnight or assign Staff Duty,
I will show you the First General Order truly.

…because I volunteered.

You can put me on TAC Duty in the scorching sun,
And preside GI parties, I will fulfill each one;
If there are duties I can complete for the mission,
I can proudly say that I live up such a tradition.
