Poems of a Liberty City Native Don't dare insinuate that we've lost our way,
Doe that is which you have no authority to say;
We have persevered this nation a great deal,
I heed not if I am deemed racist for what I reveal;
We are the mighty, crafty, and by far the strong,
And this shall we be, because we've been all along.
On behalf of my people,
I take this step forward and speak;
On behalf of my race,
I blame you for making us weak;
This I say, on behalf of my people.
It was you who situated us each slum,
To deprive us of our so-called freedom,
Introducing ghettos to drugs and guns
Was set to conceal the police as the cons;
Then on Election Day, but our candidates don't win,
Because you incarcerated our potential voting men.
On behalf of my people,
I traverse this path for us today;
On behalf of my race,
I prefer to say what most won't say.
This I convey, on behalf of my people.
We have stood so strong since the beginning
That you frequent the beach for tan skinning;
Do not initiate lifestyles to become like us so much,
To consider trendy, because it goes beyond such.
There are more than the adornment of hairweave,
And the sagging of pants which you can't believe.
On behalf of my people,
I address issues with a stand;
On behalf of my race,
I confess problems hand to hand;
This I say, on behalf of my people.
The theft of the Black Gospel by "the King,"
That he sold as bootlegged as Rock to sing;
We founded Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and Rap,
Now, I discern our music has a tamper or tap.
I thought it was called the music of the devil,
But you use it to elevate your social class' level.
On behalf of my people,
I demand you to take your blame;
On behalf of my race,
I command you to take the shame.
This I convey, on behalf of my people.
