What of Butterfly Dreamers
what of lonely caterpillars full of hope
hanging there patiently in wait
dreaming of that one day that should be yet to come
when soaring with the wings of a beautiful butterfly
will be their dream come true, be their life
but never actually escaping their cocoon
or even get the chance to fly
what of dreamers that dream far too long
but still the dream seems to end too soon
how do they know when to hold on and when to let go
is it in that moment where souls brush sunsets that take breaths away
or is it the one where loneliness turns gray and all hope finally fades
how do we then leave but then again how can we stay
what of tears that fall quietly within shadows of darkness
proving that sometimes love is just love … not salvation
and that it takes two hearts to make the leap that bridges eternity
but a heart with just one wing cannot fly
beautifully tragic is the heart that falls
so full of love but so completely marred
what of fairy-tales that dangle us by silver threads
proclaiming the existence of love, destiny and other magical things
spinning our minds with possibility as we lose ourselves in a lifetime of wonder
one heartbeat in reality and one heartbeat out until truth rains tears upon our souls
and in that moment you just know
there are no more whispers of the dream that can be believed
when do you finally realize this ‘is’ the rest of your life
and even though you don’t see it clearly now
there entwined in the simplicity
are all the gifts and treasures that everyday go unseen
and though love unrequited can feel like the end
for a heart that loves itself it’s just another beginning
and when do we truly begin to understand that when the lights go out
the truth is real dreams linger long past the darkness and into the sunrise
they don’t streak shimmering tails across lonely night skies
fading like falling stars before longing eyes
they live and breathe
right here
right now
within everyday lives
