Though I Try

I can’t slow the withering of grass
when late summer sighs,
-though I try
I can’t summon the rain to fall down
when air scorches each breath,
-though I try
I can’t orchestrate the change of season
even if September has lingered into insanity
-though I try

I can’t find the truth without
looking to the depths of your eyes,
-though I try
I can’t make my heart not feel more
than mere friends should feel,
-though I try
I can’t escape the images of
a destiny that can never be,
-though I try

I can’t turn back the pages
and rewrite the truth of our fate,
-though I try
I can’t sleep when my body's
yearning reaches out for you,
-though I try
I can’t breathe when each breath
catches passionately in possibility,
-though I try

I can’t walk away when all I want
is to always live within you,
-though I try
I can’t keep all this love inside
when its spilling out from every pore
-though I try
I can’t pretend I can love anyone else
when you still hold the whole of my heart
-though I try

and I just can't stop loving you,
-though I try and I try
