Love’s Phoenix

we were always there
somewhere beneath the chatter
the truth of our minds
hidden behind light hearted banter

our passions tiptoeing across
the restlessness of our laughter

feelings that were wild, untamed
and fierce all at the same time

as my heart grew wanton, beckoning
whispered dreams that were still hidden
within the gentle flutter of monarch wings
to find flight upon an early December's breeze

and carry the secrets of my soul
across the distance between us..
...delivering them to your heart

falling to my knees beneath
the warm trickle of raining tears
that still fell from long ago

I raised my head towards
a glistening skyscape
peering past a beacon of stars
and further still - deep into eternity

there in the darkness
from trembling lips
a thousand questions took voice
...echoing across the silence

a soul’s desire demanding liberation
an intoxicating surrender to one heart’s truth

....in an intake of breath
the uncertainty that was my fear
was embraced by the tender of your smile

all that seemed impossible - became possible
as my fears blended into the beauty of this night

just as a slight hint of dawn
began to slip out from behind last nights veil
orchestrating the wake of a new day

I realized - without uncertainty
that the flight of love could never be denied
and though my wings were tattered and worn

I knew from that moment on

for you...

...I would fly
