Walking Between Raindrops

Walking Between Raindrops

pouty lipped callas lilies
line hazy bay windows
where from an
overstuffed kingsley
I peer out above
white, wilting flowers
through double paned glass
and into endless miles as
“don’t know how (not to love you)”
plays low
…over and over again

and while thinking about
just who you are to me
losing myself in that
same ole dream of us
… I wonder
can I gamble my heart
upon a nickel plated destiny
when I just know
it can’t survive another break

and though I know
you’ve never been much
for piñata promises
nor do you
divulge too often your crave
for firesilk fairy floss

here within
the deepest reaches
of my soul
where you walk
so carefully
between raindrops
yet seem
ever tethered
to the whole of my storm

makes me believe
all we can do is try
and light the darkness
that lurks so precariously
between us

voice the whispers
that linger tender

take the steps
that yearn to be walked

and for once
ignore the fear that
always steals away
the innocence
of our hearts
