A Satisfied Anti-Personnel Landmine

Running through empty fields

Children playing soccer

A landmine waiting for a foot

Doesn't have to be a soldiers

Any foot will do

Its power has to be released

Laughing and kicking

Carefree giggles echo

There it is

Finally

BANG!

Confusion

Shock

Muscle ripped off

Tendons tearing

Flesh gone

Mind numbing pain

Delirious

What happened

Where am I

I CAN'T MOVE

Can barely hear

What is that

Someone screaming?

Its so far away

Its me

MY LEG, OH MY GOD

tears can't come

OH MY GOD

panic

Hyperventilation

WHY..I DON'T..WHAT?

Blackness

Dark Red Blood Pouring

Unconscious, Bleeding, Dying

Dead

Another Satisfied Landmine has done its job

Killed and maimed whatever touched it

Doesn't Matter Who

Its job is not to care

Author's Notes/Comments:

There are 110 million active landmines in the world.
2,000 people are involved in landmine accidents every month - one person every 20 minutes. Around 800 of these will die. 1,200 will be maimed.
A lot of the victims are women and children because they are the ones to go gather fire wood or go play out in the fields.
