Walking on Air

I was running
Running towards you, yet with you at the same time
Your arms were open to recieve me, and I felt your hand in mine
My feet pounded the ground, but it began to crumble beneath me
and you were no longer by my side
You were now only across from me, a great divide between us
Your arms hung at your sides
I drew my own around me, for protection, for comfort
There was no bridge to connect us
I could turn back the way I had come
Or begin the long journey around to your side
I waited to see what you'd decide
But you just stood there, frozen
I could still see you, hear you, but I could not touch you
But then I realized I was looking up at you
And you, down at me
I had taken a step towards you, and now I was falling
Falling into the abyss
And you just stood there
Waving
Goodbye
