Rise and Shine
Brilliant sunlight pokes at my eyes
refusing to let me sleep
Starbursts dance under my lids
I'm so tired I could weep
Morning rays keep up their barrage
Pounding reveille into my brain
Oh, just let me go back to sleep
I pray for gray skies and rain
No such fate for the working weary
Songbirds join in my wakeup call
I slowly rouse to rise and shine
There's no hope for shut-eye at all
The early bird catches the worm
Who phrased that sweet little story?
And oh that I might chance to meet
whoever named the morning glory.
