Neo America
Excuse me if I seem wholly un American
But I am stunned by my surroundings
In the wake of September eleventh it has come to my attention that...
Ours is a nation of flag waving, constitution thumping, glittery backup singers
Springstein's "Born in America" once again tops the charts
Every screensaver is that of a tearful eagle
You know the icon, we all recognize it
And the newspapers a year later were a joke of human interest stories
A beautiful memorial is erected at ground zero
Just another false portrayal of history
Perhaps we too want to copy the style of Churchill
The allies of New York City echo with the notes of Key
And everyone who's anyone has a stickie American flag in their SUV window
Hell, no wonder the eagles sobbing,
Even as we blast "Proud to be an American"
The voter turnout at the polls remains stagnant
Apparently pride is just another song lyric
Our economy continues its downward slide
Taking unemployment along for the ride
Oh don't worry Mr. Bush, no one's blaming you
That our foreign relations with Arabic nations are in shambles
No one believes in the theory of cause and effect anymore
It seems we live in a nation of innocent people
And some question my intentions as Anti-American
But I have no problem with memorizing my constitution
I even sing The "Star Spangled Banner" in the shower
But I don't pretend to be proud of how we are acting
For in my home the blind lead the blind
By passing out bumper stickers with catchy slogans, pens, and tiny flags on sticks
While everyone's eyes are blindfolded with their own copy of the Star Spangled Banner
