Rumbling growls reverberate,
the voice of the fire
that sears the sky
for one electric moment.
Rolling into the night
it warns of the storm
about to release
its life-giving torrent.
The boom overhead
shakes the house
taking me off-guard.
After my heart returns
from mouth to chest
I listen to the thunder
of rain on the roof
and I smile because
I am warm and dry
