A PEEK IN THE DARK
Candles are not lit in the sanctorum
Except to testify to the darkness; the
Night requires many stars to testify.
So much happens in the dark unseen;
When no one is watching someone bets
Everything and the dealer has our head.
It is the dark that makes friendly fire friendly;
To shoot a comrade in the light would be
Tantamount to manking him our enemy.
At night we can cheat on out lover by
Making love to someone else in a dream
No one else would know about it that night.
What darkness falls in the evening it covers
So much. Without this dark dormancy, seed
Will not grow and deciduous trees will die.
Darkness is always a veil for more light unseen.
Too see the full effulgence of God without these
Veils we would loose our separation from Him.
To peek in the dark requires a modicum of light;
Nowadays the government likes to do all the peeking;
The truth is now all being manufactured by the dark.

A MESSY PLACE
Buddha’s disciples knocked on ten doors
Each knock summoned ten sorrows
We live in a world of stinking detritus
Nature has its vultures and feline seeking mice
Here there is food for carrion and parasite
To death watch us among our smelly bones
The eagle’s glint comes from flying into the sun
But we are below and lack such perspicuity
For the eagle it is always day but it is night for us
Sometimes the rain makes us afraid, each drop
Hitting the ground raises up a crowned diadem
Unlike fallen heroes who kiss the same earth.
The farmer raises his tubers from the ground
But its sprouts always point to the grave
Lit by moons borrowing light from the sun.
Here we have borrowed life from all this death
And can only live on recycled pain; the Buddha
Pointed to a dharma away from this karma
We are inured by prime rib and ox tail soup
Savoring the rue mixed with blood, this
Is why we live in such a messy place.
