WHERE SKELETAL STRUCTURES CANNOT GO
Who isn’t enamored by the Seven Wonders of the World;
Pylons, flying buttresses; massive and steep engineering feats;
All a testimony to the hauter of the perishable human ego?
How terrifying it is that some last thousands of years while
We do not even make a footnote in history; and so it is also
That Everest reminds us that we are but an evanescent bubble.
The structures built are an outstretched arm to eternity, a
Way to fend off the inexorable march of time; the Collossus
Of Rhodes stands in as a surrogate to watch time beyond seeing.
It is all a blind lurch into the unknown and if the blind ego
Could see, it would not need the spectacle of such edifices
As a proxy to look out at the oceanic oneness of creation.
Our separated self cannot bend the stars down from the secured
Heavens. Fearing the dissolution of our impermanent self, we
Remain unaware as a wave seeing itself as separate from the ocean.
Our cathedrals are immense and its music soars into the heavens, but
Like us, it needs a flying buttress to prop us up. In the end out blanched
Bones could take us so far and could not follow the flight of the soul.
