LIGHT WITHIN THE DARKNESS
The darkening in the room was like riches to him;
Blind from birth he was used to many lurches; how
He could apprise what was within his reach.
His lover entered the room, and he could feel
The slight tremble of the vase on the dresser;
She sensed how the space in the room betrayed her.
Every attempt at intimacy is a siege of sorts; tremors
Are felt in the coming and going of intimacy; the
Moving to is a gallop and the leaving is a trot.
His sky of consciousness held more than hers, and
When he sat still he could feel her hand moving
Through space and the weight of her finger ring.
Each touch became an explosion and knowing
Like Abraham knew Sarah rose to an epiphany;
The darkness of empty space moved for him.
Then, there was the separation, uncoupling, and
Light stretched itself between them as if he shared
With her his comprehension of light in darkness.
