BRANDED HUMANALS
There is a smidgen of doggerel in every dog;
A bit of bombast in bears roaming the woods;
Humans are not the only ones with accolades.
Where did we learn to ferret things out, weasel
Our way out of tough situations and get bullish
In the stock market. We are animal taught.
I myself have gotten squirrelly over things and
Have learned to scratch like a chicken for scrap;
Of late, I have been a mole writing my poetry.
They all have family, homes and a destiny; their
Fate was never to be laid out in pieces at dinner;
But there is more than a helping of animal in us.
Whales have inter-oceanic communication; there
Is more of the brainy in cetaceans than we possess;
We learn equations of love from dolphins.
If we have been accused of being animalistic.
Maybe we were goaded and prodded like cattle;
However, no one should be branded as cruel.
