The Snail

Proud stands the snail

Observes the little boy

From head to shell to tail

It glistens bright with joy

It is not much in size

Tis but a shard of coal

Yet captivates the eyes

Of creatures a hundred times it’s whole

Basking in the sunlight

Free from any care

An exemplary delight

To life which put it there

But for all its glory

Tis savagely it dies

And as the boy lifts up his shoe

Tears run down from his eyes
