College:
“You have to do your work, don’t mess around, don’t go run off with strangers, don’t go out drinking or nothing; You have to be careful because you’re eighteen so don’t get yourself in trouble. Get your college done and you’ve the rest of your life ahead of you. College is a one time thing, you have to be careful and smart. Call me up if you need me.”
-Jason Dufrene (father)
“Study hard, which you already do, be proud of who you are. No one has done anything to help you and you’ve done everything by yourself, and that you can be proud of. Above all, have fun at college. Do what you need to do but have some fun. It‘s not all work and no play. That doesn‘t mean going out doing drugs or hanging out with those retards you‘ll meet at school, you don‘t need that in your life.”
-Ellen Cyr (Grandma)
Moving to Texas:
“Call me if you need me. Finish your college, don’t give up on your education or stop for any reason.”
-Jason Dufrene (father)
“I would like to know what your boyfriend’s intentions are when you move out, as far as what’s on his mind as you’re concerned. I understand why you two are moving, and I know you need to get away. Just be absolutely sure you’re doing the right thing and that you’re going to school. Make sure that this guy is very serious with you and that your school is taken care of.”
-Ellen Cyr (Grandma)
Military:
“I don’t know what you’re going to do, I mean boot camp you just have to listen. You have to take orders from whoever is in charge. Just get through boot camp and you’re set. Make sure that you do medical technical for your AFTC and that it’s the right career, so that the military doesn’t mess up your college.”
-Jason Dufrene (father)
“Go for it jack! Go all the way, I highly recommend it for you. You have the smarts, and you could be anything you want especially in the military. You’re putting your heart into it and you could go places. I see all the benefits for the military and it’s unbelievable. I get my medicine for free because I’m married to your grandfather and he put twenty years in the Navy. Your grandfather had a great life, education, and a lot of fun. I don’t know much about the military and that it won’t be easy, but I think you can do it. I know you’re smart and that you can get through it!”
