Those tempting portals close to reason’s brink,

are gates to madness, sense’s icy slope.

and sanity, left poised to dwell or sink,

too often reels then crumbles....fails to cope.

When evil overpowers thoughts of right,

and truth lies shattered ‘neath the weight of wrong,

then surely virtue’s lost the righteous fight,

and Satan’s left to trill his vict’ry song.

When courage stands unbent midst valor’s test,

and doubt is met with faith then turned away,

the spirit’s held supreme as fear’s suppressed,

and righteousness prevails o’er worth’s decay.

Should madness open evil’s gates of fear,

let reason, good, and courage persevere.
