A Road Too Long

Walking through life on a tortuous road,

exposed to its’ twists and turns.

Unthinkable burden, unbearable load,

impossible lessons to learn.

Bewildering signs, if any at all,

confusing choices to make.

Failures enormous, the victories small,

frequently making mistakes.

Confronted with crossroads, unable to turn,

lured to the left and the right.

Desperate decisions, of hopeless concern,

determining courses of life.

Two paces forward, now one in reverse,

progress is slow so it seems.

Retracing my steps, undoubtedly worse,

I’ll never realize my dreams.

I’ve traveled this road, with nary a clue,

walking too long and too far.

Appealing for help, a friend maybe two,

perhaps finding out if they are.

A difficult voyage through life, alone,

pausing to catch needed breath.

Ending my journey, I fear the unknown,

passing from life to sure death.

This is so true. My path started in 1971 and continues to this day. But we cope and smile while looking outside the prism. Really enjoyed this one....Ray.
