The Past

My heart was borken

My soul was consumed by pain

My mind clouded by hate and rage

I searched for freedom and release from the bonds I had made

The strong drink made my broken heart whole

The loving embrace of a woman silenced the pain

The pill's made the haze of hate and rage fade away

Tell the morning came and I saw my face

In the glass did I see a man I never knew

His skin pale

his eyes dimmed

his face full of anger

Is this man who I am

Is this man who I will always be

I hungered to feel something more

I thirsted for a life that was pure

What did I become

This beast is not the man that was before

Patient, calm, and full of Love was he before

This thing that was in the mirror was not human but a beast of despair

As I look back on the past that I held so dear I see my imperfection so clear

By his Love did I find the man that was truly inside

Christ's light ever so divine brought me out of the dark and in to the light

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem is a reflection of my past and the beast that I once was. In this poem I give a breif glimpse of a few years ago and what The Lord brought me thru in my addiction to alcohol and drugs.
