-Star Light, Star Bright...

Back when I was just a child

possibly the age of 5 or 6.

(for my brother was not yet born)

I remember something special.

Standing at the gated path,

alongside the garden, I spied

the first star of the night.

"Star light, star bright"

I had just learned the magic

wishing on the first star.

With my young heart

I wished my biggest wish.

Star light, star bright.

First star I see tonight.

I wish I may, I wish I might,

have this wish I wish tonight.

And with the biggest number

my young mind could muster,

I wished, that my mom

would live to be one hundred and twelve.

Star wishes must remain a secret

or they will not come true.

With great love and admiration

a little girl's wish lasted 35 years.

In her declining days,

I gave back the wish.

What greater love can there be

than to say good-bye?

Author's Notes/Comments:

I did wish that wish.  But there comes a time when it's better to let go.    I sure miss my mom.
